Since 1994 the EHU theology faculty and Belarusian State University of Culture have been holding annually the International Cyrill and Methodius Readings devoted to the Days of Writing and Culture and this forum has become a fruitful and stable tradition of the dialogue of Christians and contemporary society. May 23-26, 2003 saw the IX Readings commemorating the days of the international writing and culture. These readings traditionally are devoted to a certain theme, the last being “The Church and Responsibility for Creation”.

The Readings bring together the representatives of the Ministry of Education of Belarus, Belarusian universities administration, the diplomatic corps members as well as the numerous gusts from foreign countries, the clergy of the Orthodox and the Catholic Churches, academics and teachers.

The differences in opinion and outlook of the Readings participants do not cause controversy but on the contrary help to hear one another to understand the distinct features of everyone and to agree circular and theological opinions approaches to the solution of the problem facing us – preservation of the beauty and fullness of life on the Earth.

The readings are a truely ecumenical event – they are participated in by famous theologians, ecclesiastical historians of the Church, philosophers, scientists in religious and cultural studies who represent different Christian confessions and denominations. Among them were professor Ãâèäî Ôåðãàóâåíà, priest (Switzerland), professor Barbara Hallensleben (Switzerland), professor Georg Öèçåëüñáåðãåðà, priest (Austria), Leon L. Òàéâàíà, professor in history (Ëàòâèÿ), professor Robert Ñëåñèíñêîãî, doctor of philosophy (USA), Rev. Leonard Ãîðêè (Poland), Andrey B. Zubov, (Moscow), professor in history. The representatives of the research institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, teachers from Belarusian State University, Belarusian State Pedagogical University, European Humanities Univeristy and also from the universities of Mogilyov, Vitebsk, Grodno, Gomel, Polotsk.

At the same time Students’ Cyrill and Methodius Readings are held where the humanities students from Belarusian universities take part.

The proceedings of the conferences are later published as books.
