Since
1994 the EHU theology faculty and Belarusian State
University of Culture have been holding annually the
International Cyrill and Methodius Readings devoted to
the Days of Writing and Culture and this forum has
become a fruitful and stable tradition of the dialogue
of Christians and contemporary society. May 23-26, 2003
saw the IX Readings commemorating the days of the
international writing and culture. These readings
traditionally are devoted to a certain theme, the last
being “The Church and Responsibility for Creation”.
The
Readings bring together the representatives of the
Ministry of Education of Belarus, Belarusian
universities administration, the diplomatic corps
members as well as the numerous gusts from foreign
countries, the clergy of the Orthodox and the Catholic
Churches, academics and teachers.
The
differences in opinion and outlook of the Readings
participants do not cause controversy but on the
contrary help to hear one another to understand the
distinct features of everyone and to agree circular and
theological opinions approaches to the solution of the
problem facing us – preservation of the beauty and
fullness of life on the Earth.
The
readings are a truely ecumenical event – they are
participated in by famous theologians, ecclesiastical
historians of the Church, philosophers, scientists in
religious and cultural studies who represent different
Christian confessions and denominations. Among them were
